LUIS BRAVO
Two weeks before my 18th birthday, I walked into an audition for Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico with dreams of a classical dance career. What I encountered instead would transform my life’s trajectory. Before we were permitted to touch the ballet barre, the company’s Director, Lolita San Miguel, guided us through floor exercises—foot work, hundreds, and roll-ups. In that moment, I thought to myself, “I am here to dance, not to roll like a ball.” I could not have known then that those exercises would become the foundation of my life’s work.
A Journey of Mastery
As my dancing career drew to a close in 2000, I pursued my first Pilates certification under Meghan Jackson at the Pilates Body Center in Pennsylvania. Ms. Jackson’s background as a movement therapist brought a unique, rehabilitative perspective to Joseph Pilates’ classical repertoire—deepening my understanding of the Method’s therapeutic power.
In 2009, I completed the rigorous, two-year Pilates Master Mentor Program (PMMP) under the direct supervision of my mentor, teacher, and Pilates Elder, Lolita San Miguel—one of only two living first-generation instructors personally certified by Joseph Pilates himself. The PMMP is recognized as one of the most comprehensive teacher training programs in the Pilates world, distinguished by Lolita’s three-pillar vision:
- Quality of movement and historical integrity of classical Pilates work
- Authentic lineage acquired directly from Joe and Clara Pilates and Carola Trier
- Contemporary innovation and creative evolution of the Pilates Method
Professional Expertise
As a Second Generation Pilates Master Teacher, I am proficient in all of Joseph Pilates’ original apparatus, including comprehensive mat work. With over two decades of experience in Pilates education and program leadership, I have served as Pilates Coordinator at Life Time Fitness Manhattan, where I developed and managed large-scale Pilates programming.
I remain devoted to upholding the integrity, excellence, and legacy of the Pilates Method as it was intended—honoring the body as the temple of the soul.
